Fairfax Soccer League Player Safety and Disciplinary Rules
FSL is committed to keeping the league safe, respectful, and enjoyable for all players, referees, and teams.
All players are expected to follow the official rules of the game as established by IFAB, FIFA, and U.S. Soccer. The league may also introduce additional safety rules when needed.
These rules apply to all FSL players.
Yellow Card Rules
1. One yellow card in a game
A player who receives one yellow card must leave the field and sit out for 5 minutes.
The team may replace that player during the 5 minute period.
After 5 minutes, the player may return to the game only with the referee’s permission.
2. Two yellow cards in the same game
A player who receives two yellow cards in the same game will receive an automatic red card.
The player must leave the game immediately.
All red card penalties, suspensions, and fines will apply.
3. Three yellow cards in one season
A player who receives three yellow cards during the season will receive an automatic red card for disciplinary purposes.
The player will be subject to the same penalties as a red card, including suspension and fine.
Red Card Rules
4. One red card
A player who receives a red card will receive a minimum one week suspension from league play.
The player must pay a $30 fine before returning to play.
The player may not return to the field or participate in any league game until the suspension is completed and the fine is paid.
5. Two red cards in one season
A player who receives two red cards in one season will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
The player may be eligible to return the following season only after:
A. Signing a written commitment to follow league rules and maintain safe conduct.
B. Paying a $50 fine before returning to the league.
Additional Discipline
The league disciplinary committee may apply the minimum suspension and fine listed above, or it may impose additional penalties based on the seriousness of the offense or incident.
Additional penalties may include longer suspensions, higher fines, probation, or other restrictions depending on the conduct involved.
League management reserves the right to permanently suspend any player who is considered unsafe or who shows aggressive behavior toward:
Teammates
Opponents
Referees
League management
The purpose of these rules is to protect player safety, encourage respectful conduct, and maintain a positive soccer environment for all FSL members.
